Assignment 9A
In this post, I will take
record of five interviews I conducted. I interviewed people who should have the
unmet need I identified, but, for whatever reason, do not. Keeping in mind the
who, what, and why, I will describe each interview. I will include the who,
what, and why below:
Who: Are there certain people or certain businesses that, although
they share a lot in common with the others in your opportunity, nevertheless
fall outside the boundary? Why?
What: At what point does the need you identified differ from another
need? (Is thirst the same as hunger? Or is the desire to appear fashionable the
same as the desire to be loved by others?)
Why: Is the underlying cause of the outsiders' need different than
people who are inside the boundary?
These are the five
interviews I conducted:
Interview #1: Nurit, 73.
I interviewed my grandma, who had already gone through menopause. She falls
outside of this need because she no longer gets her period.
Interview #2: Nyla, 12.
Nyla is a middle school student who has yet to get her period.
Interview #3: Jayla, 14.
Jayla is an eighth grader who experiences her period regularly. She took a
while to answer my questions. When she finally did, she said she carries her
own feminine products with her and doesn’t need free ones supplied to her.
Interview #4: Taryn, 22.
She is a senior and attends college out of state. When I asked her what she
thought of my opportunity, she said it was a great idea, even though she couldn’t
benefit from it. Taryn takes birth control, so she doesn’t get her period.
Interview #5: Gabby, 20.
Gabby is a serious gymnast so she doesn’t get her period. Because her body is
in a constant state of athleticism and movement, it has become accustomed to
not menstruating.
Reflection: I realized
that this need has a lot to do with comfort and convenience. It is convenient
to have free feminine hygiene products available, and a woman would be
comfortable when she can address her period by using these products. In
addition, I originally thought that this need would apply to all women and that
all women would want this opportunity, however, these five women demonstrated
that both these ideas are wrong. Some women do not experience there period, and
some do not believe in free feminine products.

Hey Alyna, I think you truly discovered a lot with your interviews. Although I agree with your stance on feminine care products, it seems like your market might be stretched thin. There are a lot of women who do not need these products as a result of birth control or menopause. For example, I know I have female friends who are on birth control and as a result don't need the free products. However, I may also be wrong in my statement. Perhaps further research is needed.
