Final Reflection

Assignment 30A
1.    I think that I was excited and had fun during the majority of my posts. I think the most dread I’ve felt toward an assignment in this class has been toward the elevator pitches. I had no problem writing them, however, I got nervous performing them. I can sometimes become uncomfortable performing things on camera, but I will try to work on this and strengthen this weakness.
2.    The most formative experience I had in this class was making the Bug List. I enjoyed looking around at my surroundings and recognizing things in my environment in a way I normally don’t. This also, consequently, helps keep me stimulated and always thinking of ways to improve our society.
3.    I feel like right now I feel like I am in an entrepreneurial mindset, but I will finally feel like an entrepreneur when I finally launch this business.
4.    One recommendation that I would make to students who will be taking this journey in the future is to think positively and accept positive feedback.

Venture Concept No. 2

Assignment 29A
1.    My new business, Comfort4U, will work hand in hand with the government to write up a policy that raises the peoples’ taxes a small numerical amount and sends that money over to my company. My business will then use that money to purchase feminine hygiene products and deliver them to public spaces so that women will not have to find themselves in a surprise situation without a tampon or pad. As a woman who has dealt with her menstruation cycle for six years, I have found it frustrating that public restrooms do not offer feminine hygiene products for free, and in most cases, not at all. Many women, like myself, have experienced an uncomfortable situation in which they bled through their pants and were forced to insert toilet paper into their underwear and wrap a sweater around their waist in a desperate attempt to pretend that did not happen. They may get laughed at by other kids in school, or best case scenario, no one notices and they still feel uncomfortable. This situation, while still not entirely unavoidable, can be better handled if feminine hygiene products are provided without a cost in public restrooms. The market for this need would not be so specific, as it would generally be any woman or person who identifies as a woman who experiences her/their period. Naturally, there is not one geographical or demographic place that this target audience would be found in. Customers are currently satisfying this need by buying feminine hygiene products from convenience stores and carrying them with them. I don’t think this window of opportunity really has a time limit on it; the only factor that may prevent this opportunity from staying around is that someone else provides this service. To the question of “what am I selling?” is not, then, very relevant to me; the more relevant question is “what am I providing?” and “how will I make a profit from this business venture?” I am planning to get paid by the government and so will my employees. Their purpose will be to contact companies that make feminine hygiene products and deliver those products to the facilities that need them. On the other hand, I oversee everything and make sure we are using our government-given budget wisely. My job would also be to set up good contacts with the government, create our website, and be in charge of advertising in general. I don’t think that this business would necessarily have competitors. In a basic sense, one might consider companies that make feminine hygiene products competitors, but they do not provide their products for free, so I would discount that argument. Overall, I think that this business investment would benefit women everywhere.
2.    The feedback I received was mostly positive, and my peers commended me on my efforts and lengthy explanations. However, I received some constructive feedback on “What’s Next” that I can use. The feedback I got was to think more linearly and make sure all my ideas connect.
3.    My venture concept in itself hasn’t changed, however, I have made sure to take the feedback into account and not include lingerie in a possible business model.
4.    I included this picture of a quote that I love. I believe that negativity leads to more negativity while positivity leads to more positivity. I try to live my most positive life, even though it can be difficult when I have intrusive thoughts.

Your Exit Strategy

Assignment 28A
1.    I do not plan to sell my business in the next 5 years. On the contrary, I plan to keep this business going for a very long time, at least 15 years. After then, I will sell it and start up another business as I see fit.
2.    I selected this exit strategy because I think that it will let me stay committed to my business for a good amount of time, and then move on when I am ready.
3.    I don’t think my exit strategy has influenced the other decisions I’ve made in this concept. Those decisions have been for the best of my business and are separate from this one, which I also think will be the best action to take for my business.
