Reading Reflection No. 3

Assignment 27A

For this assignment, I read Innovation and Entrepreneurship by Peter Drucker.

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
In his book, Drucker argues that entrepreneurship drives innovation, and explains the dos and don’ts of being innovative.

2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
The book explained how innovation comes from a need, which is what we learned in this class. As the old saying goes, “necessity is the mother of invention.”

3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
If I were to design an exercise for this class, it would be to ask each student to reflect on how they have included innovation into their own lives. The second part would be to ask them to turn those moments of innovations into possible business endeavors.

4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
Something that stood out to me was Drucker’s definition of the word “innovation.” He described it as something that is not radically different from society but that over time, evolves to be that. I always understood innovation as something that is innately different from the societal norm and its function is to improve society.

  1. Hey Alyna, I really enjoyed your reflection. I guess it cannot be said enough times that innovation is a result of need. This book must have truly connected with this class on another level. I also really liked your exercise it seems really similar to one of our first assignments where we identified a need and posed a solution. Overall, great job!
