Assignment 24A
In this write-up, I will be discussing
the opportunity, innovation, and the venture concept of my business, which I
will call Comfort4U. I plan to work hand in hand with the government to write
up a policy that raises the peoples’ taxes a small numerical amount and sends
that money over to my company. My business will then use that money to purchase
feminine hygiene products and deliver them to public spaces so that women will
not have to find themselves in a surprise situation without a tampon or pad.
As a woman who has dealt with her
menstruation cycle for six years, I have found it frustrating that public
restrooms do not offer feminine hygiene products for free, and in most cases,
not at all. Many women, like myself, have experienced an uncomfortable
situation in which they bled through their pants and were forced to insert
toilet paper into their underwear and wrap a sweater around their waist in a
desperate attempt to pretend that did not happen. They may get laughed at by
other kids in school, or best case scenario, no one notices and they still feel
uncomfortable. This situation, while still not entirely unavoidable, can be
better handled if feminine hygiene products are provided without a cost in public
restrooms.
The market for this need would not be
so specific, as it would generally be any woman or person who identifies as a
woman who experiences her/their period. Naturally, there is not one
geographical or demographic place that this target audience would be found in.
Customers are currently satisfying this need by buying feminine hygiene
products from convenience stores and carrying them with them. I don’t think
this window of opportunity really has a time limit on it; the only factor that
may prevent this opportunity from staying around is that someone else provides
this service. To the question of “what am I selling?” is not, then, very
relevant to me; the more relevant question is “what am I providing?” and “how
will I make a profit from this business venture?” I am planning to get paid by
the government and so will my employees. Their purpose will be to contact companies
that make feminine hygiene products and deliver those products to the
facilities that need them. On the other hand, I oversee everything and make
sure we are using our government-given budget wisely. My job would also be to
set up good contacts with the government, create our website, and be in charge
of advertising in general.
I don’t think that this business would
necessarily have competitors. In a basic sense, one might consider companies
that make feminine hygiene products competitors, but they do not provide their
products for free, so I would discount that argument. Overall, I think that
this business investment would benefit women everywhere.
Hey Alyna, I do not know how many times I can agree with your idea. Every time you explain it a little more, I see even more brilliance behind it. The fact that you are applying your idea to such a wide market is exceptional. Also, your plan to partner with the government and achieve your goal through tax increase is really smart considering it would be hard to fund such a large project on your own. I hope you see your idea to fruition.
